A special tip from our Mountain Spa: medical massages

Published 21.11.2024

Alongside a wide range of classic and specialised massages, facial and body treatments, beauty services or wraps and peelings, our Mountain Spa also invites you to enjoy a medical massage – for a holistic physical well-being.

Our medical massage therapists

We are delighted to have not one but two medical massage therapists with us at the Feuerstein: Stefan and Paul. They both trained in the city of Innsbruck in Austria and have been working in this field for many years. After a number of professional positions and ongoing training, they now possess a great wealth of experience. As a result, many Feuerstein guests have already benefited from their expertise in alleviating physical discomfort.

What actually is a medical massage therapist?

A medical massage therapist primarily works in the hospital’s therapeutic area and therefore with patients who require treatments for health issues, following an injury or an operation. These massage treatments are thus commonly considered a form of therapy or rehabilitation but are also used for prevention. In doing so, each and every patient is treated in a very personalised way. This is why a medical massage is a highly individualised treatment and can’t be described in general terms.

However, there are many medical massage therapists offering their skills in other sectors, just like Stefan and Paul at the Feuerstein.

Who can benefit from medical massages at the Feuerstein?

On the one hand, our medical massage therapists ensure that our guests can keep up their ongoing therapies while being on holiday. On the other hand, almost everyone is likely to have a minor or major “problem spot” that needs to be treated – from back pain to knee problems or neck tension. Last but not least, it is also worthwhile considering medical massages as a preventive measure, allowing also the lucky ones with no discomforts to benefit from them.

How does a medical massage work?

First of all, our medical massage therapists ask their patients in detail about their physical conditions. What is their daily routine like? What kind of job do they have? Do they spend a lot of time on their feet or do they sit a lot? Do they get little exercise or on a regularly basis? This is how they can determine where the pain is coming from. After all, it often originates in a completely different spot to the one where the pain is felt. Once all the information has been gathered, the individual treatment can begin. In the process, the deep muscles are worked and relaxed. Where necessary, also lymphatic drainages may be applied.

Prenatal massage

Pregnant women can also very much benefit from a medical massage. The treatment is more gentle, yet no less effective. The muscles are being supported as they carry additional weight, tensions are loosened and water retention is reduced. The massage also provides deep relaxation and stress relief, stimulates inner peace and results in an overall pleasant body feeling. Yet there is another benefit as pregnant women really are in very professional hands with our medical massage therapists. However, keep in mind that women's muscles, connective tissue and ligaments change during pregnancy, which means that at a certain stage, traditional massages are no longer appropriate.

General information

Stefan and Paul work very hard every day. So if you are interested in enjoying a medical massage, we recommend booking well in advance.

Medical massages are available for adolescent and adult guests alike.
